Dungeness Kayaking now offers night kayaking trips!

There are two night guided trips available. One is during the full moon phase (two days before and two days after) and the other is preferred in a no moon or dark sky evening. Consult the calendar for when these trips are available. $100 (minimum) for two people.

The full moon trip will consist of paddling out onto the water at a point where we will be able to watch the moon rise over the Cascades to the east. We will sit and watch it light up the bay and enjoy the color changes it goes through as it continues to rise. This doesnít have to be a romantic occasion, but it sure is fun when it is.

The bioluminescent trip is only available in August and September when the water is warm enough to cause bioluminescence to exist. Bioluminescence are tiny marine animals (dinoflagellates, single-cell algae, often numbering many hundreds per liter) that light up as a means of defense. What you will see are sparkling water droplets and movement under water that lights up as a fish swims by or other movements that occur--the wake of the boat or the splash of a paddle or water dripping off your hands. This is one of the most spectacular phenomena on the water. While it is not possible to capture it in photographs, it will give you a lasting memory that will linger forever.

The full moon and bioluminescent paddling adventures will last about two hours. It is suggested that participants dress warmly with gloves and hats as well as come equipped with flash lights or headlamps. Water and snacks are also suggested.
