Sea Kayaking Lessons
by an ACA Certified Instructor

• Do you always paddle with a skilled kayaker?
• Do you know what the water temperature is?
• Do you wear protective clothing (like a wet or dry suit) when you paddle?
• Did you know that a drop in body temperature of 3.5 degrees will result in hypothermia?
• Do you know how to deal with hypothermia?
• Do you know how to perform a self or assisted rescue (see the below pictures)?
• Do you carry and know how to use a paddle float?
• Do you carry an extra paddle, first aid kit, survival kit and other emergency gear?
• Do you carry and know how to use a VHF radio or cell phone in a dry bag?
• Do you carry signaling devices--flares, whistle, horn, smoke, glow stick?
• Do you have good bracing skills?
• Do you belong to a kayaking club or organization like Olympic Peninsula Paddlers  http://www.olympicpeninsulapaddlers.com/

then you are taking an unwise risk and you need to take a Sea Kayaking Course!!

Dungeness Sea Kayaking lessons provide the following:

•  How to select a boat that is right for you. (You can special order one from us!)
•  Learn what safety equipment and clothing are needed. (You can puchase them from us!)
•  How to perform a wet exit and self and assisted rescues.
•  Different paddling strokes and boat maneuvering.
•  Launching and landing in adverse conditions.
•  How to paddle in adverse conditions.
•  Learn how to determine when to stay off the water.  
•  Prepare for a kayaking camping trip (we can take you on one too!)
•  Customized instruction to your desired level of skill development.
•  ACA Certified Kayak Instructor.

Sea Kayaking Instruction by an ACA Certified Instructor

• Minimum of two people per class.
• Sign up as a group and schedule a day that is convenient to your group. 
• Kayaks and necessary gear are available while taking lessons.
• Participants must obtain and wear a wet or dry suit.
• Individualized instruction is available.
• Each class utilizes the ACA approved curriculum.
• Each class is progressive in skill development.

Introduction to Sea Kayaking:  This course emphasizes safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition for entry level individuals.  Participants will learn and practice several re-entry techniques as well as bracing manuevers, basic navigation and the necessity of carrying essentials when out on the water as well as how to use each of the essentials.  Sign up for the two day class on June 19/20.  $135 per person.  You need to obtain a wet or dry suit.  Call or email for more information.  Individualized instruction is available upon request.

Essentials of Sea Kayaking: This course reviews and works toward skill mastery of those skills introduced in the Introduction of Sea Kayaking course.  Participants need to have practiced and refined basic skills and this course will provide instruction to improve efficiency, safety and understanding as a more effective paddler.

Open Water Sea Kayaking: This course provides the skilled kayaker with instruction on how to paddle in open and moving water.  The participants will be exposed to currents, crossings of open water and possibly surf.  The purpose of this course is to provide the paddler with confidence to paddle safely when conditions change.

Introduction to Sit-On-Top Surf Kayaking: This course will provide the participant with a fun-filled experience of kayaking in the surf safely.  Boat control and paddling techniques will be emphasized.

Introduction to Surf Kayaking: This course provides the paddler with an opportunity to experience kayaking in surf.  This course emphasizes safety, enjoyment and fun in the surf.  Participants will be introduced to the basic elements and techniques of surf kayaking. This is a two day class with camping; course fee does not include camping expenses.

Introduction to Rock Gardening: This course provides the paddler with an opportunity to experience kayaking where the surf meets rock walls.  Participants must have good boat control and have taken a surf kayaking course where landing and being in surf has been experienced, and the paddler is comfortable with being in those conditions.  This is an advanced course that will push particpants to enjoy extreme kayaking.  Participants will explore sea caves, slots and various other areas where only a sea kayaker can explore.

Kayak lessons include kayaks, PFD's, paddles, spray skirts and safety equipment.
